The origin of the word frevo is related to the verb ferver (boil in English). This fact explains the ebullient character of this music. It is a typical dance from Pernambuco, a state in Northeastern Brazil, performed extremely fast and danced in a very fun way with colorful umbrellas. Frevo is a genre typically played by wind instruments and this particular one suited very well the bassoon. Indeed this is boiling!
André Mehmari (*1977), Suíte Brasileira (2017) (First release for bassoon in 2021); Bassoon: Fábio Cury, Piano: André Mehmari, recorded on May 30th 2021
