How To Make Homemade Cheese Straws - Wafers

Cheese straws are a holiday staple in the South! They're crispy and packed with cheesy flavor with just a hint of heat. Perfect for gift giving.
This recipe makes approximately 70 cheese wafers
Ingredients
8-ounces extra sharp cheddar cheese, freshly grated
1 stick salted butter, softened
1/4-1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/8-1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 cup rice puff cereal
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 325F.
2. In large mixing bowl stir together butter and cheese until well blended. Add spices and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until blended.
3. Using your hands, fold in flour until well blended. Add cereal and carefully fold in. Shape dough mixture into a large ball.
4. Using a teaspoon, scoop dough into balls and roll with your hands. They should be the size of marbles.
5. Place balls on ungreased baking sheet about two inches apart. Flatten with a fork.
6. Bake for approximately 17-20 minutes or until golden brown. Allow cheese wafers to cool completely on baking sheet before serving.
Store in an airtight cookie tin. These continue to get better with time.
