PARANORMAL VANCOUVER: Ghosts of Hotel Europe in Gastown! Haunted Canada!

Hotel Europe in Gastown, Vancouver, is a striking six-storey heritage building at 43 Powell Street, built in 1908–1909 and designed in a “flat-iron” style by architects Parr & Fee. It was one of Canada’s earliest reinforced concrete structures and was advertised as the “only absolutely fireproof hotel” in its day. Though no longer operating as a hotel, it was converted in 1983 into affordable housing, and many of its original architectural elements—tile floors, marble detailing, beveled glass—remain intact. The building also has a colorful lore of hauntings and has appeared in films such as The Changeling and Legends of the Fall.

The Hotel Europe is often said to be haunted by lingering spirits, with reports of strange noises, cold drafts, and unsettling feelings in its narrow hallways and old cellar spaces. Some witnesses even claim to have seen shadowy figures moving through the building, as if echoes of its past residents still wander its rooms.
