Known as the “Chicago Bluebeard,” Hoch posed as a charming gentleman, marrying at least 55 women across the United States. Behind his many aliases, he robbed his wives of their savings and in many cases, poisoned them with arsenic.

Police confirmed at least 15 murders, though some investigators believed the true number could be as high as 50 victims. Using fake identities and matrimonial ads, Hoch turned loneliness into his hunting ground, preying on widows who thought they had found love again.
