Brackley Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Northamptonshire, and around 20 miles southwest of Northampton, is the town of Brackley.

Geographically, Brackley is situated adjacent to the River Great Ouse, about six miles away from its source. A Norman castle once stood at the southwestern corner of the town, which is said to have been the site where the initial draft of Magna Carta was drawn up by King John's barons, before later being signed at Runnymede in Surrey in 1215. Very little of the castle remains today besides earthworks.

At the northeastern end of the town centre is the Church of St Peter. Featured at the end of the walk, this dates back to the Norman era, although the building of today comprises mostly of 13th and 14th century elements. The church is Grade I listed. Another notable architectural highlight is Brackley Town Hall, built from ashlar stone during the reign of Queen Anne.

During the medieval era, Brackley had a thriving wool trade, and later, a lace trade, helping to account for many of the fine buildings seen around the town. The Industrial Revolution effectively put an end to Brackley's textile manufacturing. A much more recent provider of jobs in the town is Mercedes AMG Petronas, whose Formula 1 team is based in Brackley, around six miles southwest of the Silverstone Circuit.

In 1850 a railway station opened in Brackley. This formed part of the now-defunct Banbury–Verney Junction branch line. The station closed to passengers in 1961, and to goods in 1963. Today, public transport to Brackley consists of direct buses from Bicester, Banbury and other nearby locations.
