Before meeting up with Mark Alexander of Poetic Funk on 11 Feb 2022, to document his clubbing recollections for 'The Untold Story Of Raregroove', I discovered a record stall near to where we'd planned to meet in Leake Street, Waterloo. Mark was running late so I told him to meet me at the record stall in Lower Marsh Street Market instead of our intended meeting place round the corner.
No problem waiting for him as it gave me a chance to play through a pile of records I'd pulled out from the boxes. Mark had only one concern on his mind when we met and his first words were "I bet you've taken all the good stuff".
With three large crates of soul, boogie and funk on the tables, in true DJ style, Mark was more interested in digging for vinyl than doing our planned interview. As a fellow crate digger I knew it would be impossible for him to walk away with the allure of unchecked vinyl on his mind. It was fine by me to wait around as I got to shoot an unplanned 'bonus prelude' to our interview.
