The 1971 Honda cb750k1 historic race bike is really starting to come together.
In this video, I'll be painted the tank and other parts to be a nice light, aged looking cream to pull together that vintage look and feel.
To my understanding, Honda wanted to compete in manufacturer racing, where to qualify the bike also had to be an available option on the showroom floor at dealerships.
This is the same reason you see limited edition versions of cars such as the GTO, Galaxy 500, Superbird, and so on.
So Honda made the cb750 as their production race bike, with the earliest generation, the k1 essentially being their race bike. From there the k2 or k3 and other bikes are said to be detuned.
Now again. this is just to my understanding. I could be wrong and misinformed so take what I say with a grain of salt. A lot of companies didn't openly admit to this because, well, they were supposed to be racing a production vehicle, not selling a race vehicle.
ANYWAYS
so we picked up this 71 750 k1 that someone was building into a café racer, which don't get me wrong i love a good cafe racer but I also have a major passion for racing, especially vintage racing, so we decided WHY NOT.
I went with a cream white to really pull the vintage look further together.
I wanted to go with my normal orange and blue, BUT the frame was already painted red. Instead of taking the time to strip the bike down to nothing I decided to do the bike in cream and red. While I want the bike to be modern in terms of performance, I really want the bike to maintain its vintage look.
From what I can tell, the bike falls well within classes like Sportsman 750 and similar which focus on stock framed bikes.
I also got our race number painted on the bike, which is 499. We've raced other series using #499 so I'm hoping we are able to continue to do so as we run other series such as the vintage series and when we reach our goal of stage rally.
I can tell you right now, in ARA stage rally someone else is using the number, but everything is for sale for the right price.
I also got the tank painted, but not finished. I need to bring the red stripes through the tank, along with some "Hard Cruise Racing" graphics painted on the tank.
I was in a mild time restraint as we were hosting one of the largest blessing of the bikes in the Midwest at our Church, Shawnee UMC. I wanted to make sure the bike was blessed before the riding season, and sure, some say they are blessing the rider, but if I can get a little more safety while riding and racing, I could use all the help I can get.
We try to always be building something cool, from our custom motorcycles to our other race projects and street toys. shoot I think we are even going to do a boat.
we focus on budget friendly and DIY educational content so you can understand and build your own things at home.
