This year, I filmed and edited the biggest project of my life so far. The result is a 30 minute documentary about workers rights, and it will be coming out on this YouTube channel at some point in 2024. This documentary was about as solo a project as something can get. I did everything for this doc; directing, filming, editing, etc.. But even though it was just me, I wanted to make sure I was approaching things as professionally as possible. The story is driven by interviews with key members of the workers’ fight for a fair contract. I had about 10 hours of content from three days of interviews. This means I needed a solid process to sift through the terabytes of interviews and keep track of what everyone is saying.
In this video, I’ll break down how I approached this project and walk through some of the most important steps for getting oriented when starting such a massive project.
Shoutout to Joshua Kirk for publishing his video about how to organize and edit a documentary, it was hugely helpful when I was getting started with this project: • Editing A Documentary - Workflow Organisat...
