Woodturning a chunk of sugar maple into a fine figure of a bowl. The form matters as much as the function for a decorative and useable vessel.
This rather plain looking bowl blank was hiding some truly beautiful grain patterns. I hope you enjoy the reveal as much as I did!
I used OB Shine Juice as the finish for this piece. The recipe, generously given to the world by Cap'n Eddie Casteline in this video:
• #89 O.B. Shine Juice
It is three equal parts, clear shellac, denatured alcohol (or methylated spirits), and boiled linseed oil.
A huge shout out and thanks to Uncle Moe! It's taken me a while to get to this pretty chunk of wood, but I appreciate it none-the-less! Thanks for sending me such a nice variety of wood to turn, my friend!
I hope to get back on regular video production schedule soon! Thanks so much for sticking with me, and for all the new subscribers that have come aboard recently!!! An injury to my thumb has kept me out of the shop, but I'm getting back at it after a few week of recovery. I'll elaborate eventually...but that's why I was wearing the glove. Just some added protection as I heal. Again, thank you so much!
