Nuages was one of legendary Romani-French guitarist Django Reinhardt's most popular compositions. Django together with violinist Stephane Grappelli founded the "Quintette du Hot Club de France" based in Paris. Django recorded Nuages in 1940. Django was one of the first major jazz talents to emerge in Europe and has been hailed as one of its most significant exponents. Reinhardt recorded in France with many visiting American musicians and briefly toured the United States with Duke Ellington's orchestra in 1946.
In this video the San Francisco Feetwarmers first give the plaintive lead to cornetist Mike Slack, supported by a very steady solid pulsing rhythm section. Solos follow by Brian Cambell (clt), legendary trombonist Bob Mielke and pianist Bill Gould. Feel the love these guys have for the music!
During the ongoing Covid Pandemic, the Feetwarmers are pleased to share their recordings via YouTube in the hope that they will bring some happiness and solace in difficult times - enjoy and stay safe until we can play for you live again. That will be soooo good.
San Francisco Feetwarmers ... that's an unusual name. Not when you recall the great Sidney Bechet's New Orleans Feetwarmers, Johnny Dodds' Chicago Footwarmers and Duke Ellington's Harlem Feetwarmers. It is the perfect name for a Bay Area band known for playing classic jazz with a touch of class.
