But in 1192, returning from the Crusades, Richard was captured while travelling in disguise and held prisoner for over a year.
His ransom, worth three times the annual income of the English crown, reshaped the balance of power in Europe.
Through historical reconstructions and expert analysis, this documentary revisits the kidnapping of Richard the Lionheart and separates the man from the myth.
