You never know what is going to happen when doing a jazz club date. During my drum solo, my bass player, the great John Lamb who played bass for Duke Ellington in the 60`s, had me play his bass. This is the very bass John Lamb used when he played with Duke Ellington. In his late 80`s, John Lamb has played with so many of the all time great jazz artist. I saw a video of Gene Krupa doing this same thing of playing the bass with his sticks. Of course the first to do this was drummer Ray Bauduc with bassist Bob Haggart on the song Big Nosie From Winnetka. Here I`m play the jazz standard Cherokee. It`s an honor for me to play with John Lamb who I have learned so much from. I`m using my 1968 Slingerland Modern Jazz kit with the 20 inch bass drum, 8x12 tom, 14x14 floor tom, and 5.5x14 snare drum. All drum have that wide open full tone which sounds so wonderful doing these great jazz standards.
