In today‘s "Journey to the Hidden Treasures" series, Stephen learns about a folk custom, a type of intangible cultural heritage in Jinshan district's 吕巷 Town.
The "white dragon" folk custom originates in ancient China and became quite popular during the Qing Dynasty. According to old documents in southern Shanghai's Jinshan District, there used to be a white dragon that came down from heaven on the 3rd month of the lunar year to protect the local people and provide them with a stable and happy life. The custom includes several activities, such as eating rice cake, dragon dances and parades.
