In this exclusive first sea trial, review and tour of the Pearl 72 in European waters, Jack Haines has the chance to get under the skin of one of the most impressive designs in this sector.

The Bill Dixon/Kelly Hoppen combination stikes again in a brilliantly packaged design which includes a tender garage large enough to fit a tender and jet-ski side-by-side and still have room for a Seabob.

On the lower deck, there is what Pearl calls a twin owner’s cabin layout with a full-beam VIP ensuite amidships and owner’s cabin with separate access right forward in the bow. It’s a great bit of design that sets the 72 apart from an impressive crop of rivals.

The Kelly Hoppen interior is another striking addition to the 72’s design and, again, feels like nothing else in the sector. It may not suit all tastes but it’s certainly brave and fresh.

There are two MAN engine options of either 1,400hp or 1,550hp but the test boat had twin 1,600hp MTUs for a top speed of well over 30 knots.
