How to Maximize the Potential of a Honeybee Swarm - Maximum colony splits w/ grafted queen cells. In this series of videos we catch multiple swarms. We will then take these swarms and make the maximum amount of honeybee splits using grafted queen cells and 2 frame mini mating nucs. We will demonstrate the catching of the colonies, splitting them out into the 2 frame mini mating nucs, the grafting process we use from beginning to installing the new capped queen cells. We will then follow the development of these new colonies with their newly mated queen bees. We will do at least weekly bee hive inspections to monitor their progress throughout the beekeeping season, eventually prepare the honeybee colonies for winter and add pollen patties and winter patties. Come spring we will tally up how many colonies of bees from these original swarm catches have made it through winter. Along the way we will be monitoring for varroa mites and other honeybee diseases using a combination of a CO2 mite testing method and periodic alcohol mite wash and will treat accordingly as needed with an appropriate varroa mite treatment. This will be a great beekeeping 101 how to beekeeping series. Please follow along with this series as we explore How to maximize the potential of a honeybee swarm.
