Karoline Claire Leavitt, born on August 24, 1997, in Atkinson, New Hampshire, is an American spokesperson currently serving as the White House Press Secretary since January 20, 2025, under President Donald Trump's second administration. At 27 years old, she is the youngest person to hold this position.

Leavitt's early life and education took place in New Hampshire. She attended Central Catholic High School and later Saint Anselm College, where she studied politics and communication and played softball on an athletic scholarship. During her time at Saint Anselm, she was involved with the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, interned for a United States senator, and wrote for the school newspaper, the Saint Anselm Crier, often expressing conservative viewpoints. She also interned at the White House Office of Presidential Correspondence, writing letters on behalf of the president.

Her political career began with an internship at the White House during Trump's first term, eventually leading to a role as an assistant White House press secretary from 2019 to 2021. After the 2020 election, she served as communications director for Representative Elise Stefanik.

In 2022, Leavitt ran as the Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in New Hampshire's first congressional district. Her campaign focused on issues such as tax cuts, supporting law enforcement, and border security. While she won the Republican primary, she was not elected to the general election, losing to incumbent Democrat Chris Pappas.

Following her congressional campaign, Leavitt became a spokeswoman for MAGA Inc., a pro-Trump Super PAC. In January 2024, she joined Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign as his national press secretary, frequently appearing on television to promote his message.

In November 2024, President-elect Donald Trump named Leavitt as his White House press secretary, and she assumed office in January 2025. During her first press briefing on January 28, 2025, she announced plans to open the briefing room to a wider range of media, including podcasters and social media influencers.

Leavitt is married to real estate developer Nicholas Riccio, and they have a son, Nicholas, born in July 2024.
