Simply Chrysolite is a multi-award winning South African gospel girl-band made up of 5 young ladies from KwaZulu-Natal; Pretty Nguse, Thab’zo Mkhwanazi, Thabiso Mkhize and Phumzile Ngcobo.
These young stars are all mentored by Rev. Tim Omotoso. (the Senior Pastor of Jesus Dominion International and founder of Tim Omotoso Global Outreach).
Simply Chrysolite shocked the entertainment world when, In September 2011 they won the Best International Act at the Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts award in London, United Kingdom by beating 4 time Grammy award winner Kelly Rowland, African superstar and multiple award winning Wiz Kid, BET Music Award winners – 2 Face & D’Banj and a number of other world class nominees.
Hardly a couple of weeks afterwards, they won 2 International gongs at the 2011 Gospel Music Awards, Ireland – winning the Best International Song of the year – IHUBELISHA and the Best International Album of the year (with their self-titled album – SIMPLY CHRYSOLITE).
Their debut album, ‘Simply Chrysolite Volume 1’, containing 10 tracks were composed by individual members of the band, arranged by Tim Omotoso and co-produced by multi award winning music producer, Wole Oni.
Simply Chrysolite’s latest single release, ‘Psalm 121’ (produced by Tim Omotoso, co-produced by Daniel Adegbenro and arranged by Tim Omotoso) won them the best group and their 7th gong at the 2013 SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards, beating seasoned groups: Soweto Gospel Choir, Tshwane Gospel Choir & Worship House.
Their first burst to the lime light came in 2010, (after few months of kick starting the group) when the won the Best Engineered Album at South African’s Crown Gospel Music Awards 2010.
Simply Chrysolite was then nominated in the Best R&B Gospel category at the 2011 South African Music Awards. The group then won the best Video of the year for one of their hit songs, ‘LORD I LOVE YOU’ at the Gospel Music Awards, Italy 2012. Their success is evident from every angle, with the girls winning the Best Gospel Group at the 2012 Olympic edition of the Africa Gospel Music Awards in London.
US gospel mega star and 8 time Grammy award winner, Kirk Franklin, shared the stage with them at the 2012 Fun in the Son, Kingston – Jamaica. (An event that marked the 50 years of Jamaica’s independence) and he described their sound, voices and harmonies as “fresh”, “Dope” and “Crazy.” Simply Chrysolite was the first and the only African group to perform in this festival to over 150,000 fans. Since their astonishing achievements, the story of Simply Chrysolite has received extensive coverage in all the media platforms throughout Africa, Europe, the Caribbean and the United States. On 17 July 2011, they were voted as one of Viewers Top 5 choices on SABC 1’s Gospel Gold amongst many other TV and Radio programs and their 4 music videos has racked up a quarter of a million views on youtube since its release. The South African Sowetan newspaper described their voices as “angelic” and Jamaican Radio show host, Dennis Isis Miller, said she developed goose bumps all over her body from their singing. She described their music as soul lifting and inspiring.
