Vintage Soviet D3-28 calculator loading and executing a counter program. Possibly the only such fully functional machine that exist in the USA today. Thanks to Mr. Vitaliy Kolesnik for providing a translation of the keyboard, and the counter program that was contributed by Sergey of St. Petersburg.
Is this machine a clone of the Wang 700? Here is the answer from an expert:
“The Wang700 supports a 64-instruction system and has 960 steps of memory.
The Д3-28 machine supports a 320-instruction instruction system with 128 kilobytes of memory.
Strictly speaking, the Д3-28 is not a clone of the Wang700. However, almost all the commands of the Wang700 are available in the Д3-28. So, I would suggest to refer to this machine as a Soviet personal computer that, in calculator mode, is compatible with the Wang700 calculator. It should be noted that In the former Soviet Union, a calculator was produced that was very similar to Wang700. It was called the 15ВСМ-5. It had almost the same command system and memory as the Wang 700. The appearance of the 15ВСМ-5 was exactly the same as that of Д3-28. Therefore, there was an erroneous opinion that the Д3-28 is a clone of the Wang 700.
Sincerely, Vitaliy Kolesnik, webmaster D3-28.ru”
