Reblooming Hydrangea Experiment, Fertilizing Annuals "Weakly Weekly," Pruning Spirea for Fall Blooms

Want to get your hydrangea to rebloom in the fall? If you're growing an Invincibelle Smooth Hydrangea it's possible to have a second round of blooms in the autumn by deadheading the plant in late June or early July!

The Invincibelle line of Hydrangea arborescens are the only reblooming smooth hydrangeas. It is simply in its nature to continue flowering until frost. To increase the quantity and quality of rebloom, however, you can remove old flowers once their bright pink color has faded. Fertilizing also encourages rebloom – we recommend fertilizing once in early spring, just as the new growth is beginning, and again in mid to late June. The more new growth the plant puts on, the more it will rebloom.

Invincibelle Spirit II begins to flower in early summer. The flowers begin a dark burgundy color, open to a rich pink, and gradually fade to a pale pink. Invincibelle Spirit hydrangea has the unique ability to continue blooming up until frost, providing months of flowers! While deadheading is not strictly necessary for the plant to re-bloom, it does encourage it to happen faster. Simply remove the faded flower just above a set of leaves.
