The BEST settings for video on the Lumix S5

The goal of this video is to help you setup your Panasonic S5 for video recording for (most) maximum settings. Working with the camera for the past 6 months has taught me a few fun tricks that I’m confident will help you with your projects.

This camera is UH-MAZING, so congratulations to any of you who picked one up. I firmly believe it is the best value for the money for a mirrorless cinema camera…it has C4k, why not call it cinema?!

Check Firmware Version:
Wrench - 5th Icon - Firmware version

Change our Video File formats:
Camera Icon - 1st icon - Exposure Mode - M for manual
Camera Icon - 1st icon - Photo Style - VLog - Cin2 is great too, but Vlog gives you the most dynamic range
Camera Icon - 1st icon - SS/Gain Operation - ANGLE/ISO - Use 180 degree rule to save time

Camera Icon - 3rd Icon (Image Format - page 1) - FULL
Camera Icon - 3rd Icon (Image Format - page 1) - Rec. File Format - MOV (for the highest quality)…then
Camera Icon - 3rd Icon (Image Format - page 1) - Rec Quality - 4K, 24p, 422, 10-L for 16:9…or your preference to C4k if you want the extra pixels and/or adjust in post.

Turn on Focus Peaking:
Camera Icon - 5th Icon - Focus peaking - SET - to +2 and blue, THEN turn ON

Change Sound Settings:
Camera Icon - 6th Icon (Audio page 1) - Sound Rec Level Disp - ON
Camera Icon - 6th Icon (Audio page 1) - Sound Rec Level Disp - -12 db

Turn on Constant Preview (for photo)”
Gear - 4th icon (Monitor/Display (photo) page 1) - constant Preview - ON

Change ISO settings:
Gear - 1st Icon - ISO increments - 1/3 EV
Gear - 1st Icon - Extended ISO - ON

My three (3) dial setup for Ultra Manual Mode:
Gear - 3rd Icon (Operation page 1) - Dial Set - Assign Dial (F/SS) - SET5
Gear - 3rd Icon (Operation page 1) - Dial Set - Control Dial Assignment - ISO

Turn on Luminance Spot Meter:
Gear - 4th icon - page 3 - Luminance Spot Meter - ON

Select LUT:
Gear - 5th down - V-Log View Assist - LUT Select - Vlog_709

Turn on LUT:
Gear - 5th down - V-Log View Assist - LUT View Assist (Monitor) - ON

Turn on Red Record frame:
Gear - 5th icon - Red REC Frame Indicator - ON

Monitor Backlight:
Wrench - 2nd Icon - Monitor backlight - set to 0 instead of auto

Turn off Beeps:
Wrench - 3rd icon (IN/OUT page) - Beeps - Off

Turn on Touch Tabs!!!!
Gear - 3rd Icon (Operation - page 1) - Touch Settings - Touch Tab - ON

Save Custom Mode:
Wrench - Gear - Save to Custom Mode - (select C1, C2, or C3, etc)
