The Pentax AF240FT flash unit uses 4 x AA batteries.
I use the AF240T on my Pentax KM camera. In this video, a Pentax KX camera is used (attached directly to the ''hot shoe'' at the top center of the camera body).
The light output of this flash unit would be classified as being ''Medium''.
IN THE BEGINNING : This flash unit was designed especially for the Pentax SFX/SF1 models, but it CAN be used as a ''normal'' flash on some other models without using the TTL (through the lens) and SB (spot beam) facilities, because this camera (and other K series)
This flash unit can also be used on other Pentax cameras, but in this video I have shown how the AF240FT relates to the Pentax KX or KM cameras. (The operation of the flash for SFX/SFI cameras and Pentax ''KAF'' mount cameras is different to the simplified operation I have shown here for KM and KX models).
See the video on where to set the rear switches in order to make the flash fire when the shutter release button is pressed on either of the two models mentioned above.
''SB'' stands for ''Spot Beam'', but the spot beam is not relevant in the case of the KM and KX models, so I have referred to ''SB'' as a ''Stand By'' switch position in this video.
The 2 position switch on the left hand side of the control panel is for ''trailing curtain sync'' or ''leading curtain sync'' with regard to the position of the shutter.
Just leave that switch in the left-hand position ( ''leading curtain sync'').
