Kayaking Gasparilla Sound | Wildlife, Tides & One Big Redfish

Spent the day exploring the blue water of Boca Grande again on a beautiful sunny Saturday. I launched around 6:30 AM and headed south into Gasparilla Sound on a falling tide that would start rising after 9 AM. Right away I had a blow-up at my first stop, then picked up a few trash fish and a small speckled trout while trolling.

Around noon everything changed — I hooked into my personal-best redfish on a paddletail. It was an intense battle, and I’ll admit I got a little lucky, but this time I came out on top. Along the way I spotted sharks cruising, dolphins popping up, and tons of life across the flats. I wrapped the day around 2 PM after fighting heavy current near the railroad bridge. Met up with Bob and Iveta at the launch and then headed home to clean up the gear.
