A ceasefire between Israel and the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah took effect on November 27, 2024, after both sides accepted an agreement brokered by the United States and France. The deal, announced by US President Joe Biden on November 26, is meant to clear the way for an end to fighting along the Israeli-Lebanon border. The conflict has killed thousands of people in Lebanon since it was ignited by the Gaza war last year.
