Wastewater Math: Calculate RAS Rate Using SV30 (30 min Sludge Settleability Test) and Flow

Welcome! I am a CA Grade 4 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator and Chief Plant Operator. I also hold a CA D3 Drinking Water Distribution Operator Certificate and a CA T2 Drinking Water Treatment Plant Operator Certificate.

Today we learn how to calculate the Return Activated Sludge Rate (RAS) using the 30 minute sludge settleability test (SV30) and Secondary Influent Flow. There are two different ways to calculate this and we will review both solutions. This was right out of an ABC study guide and was asked by a viewer in Ohio studying for their Class 2 (or Class II - not sure how they write it out there). This is an intermediate version of the math problem but will benefit operators of all grade levels and classes.
