Fly fishing the Goulburn River tailwater during high flows in summer can be daunting. Over summer, the river is usually high and looks intimidating, with strong flows up to 7–8,000 megalitres or more. Many anglers avoid the river at this time of year, but if you break the water down into small manageable pieces, it is more approachable and opens up some exciting fishing opportunities. The sight fishing is perhaps the most surprising as is the willingness of large trout to eat a dry fly, especially hoppers.
