TEARFUL Scenes As ICC Rejects Duterte’s Plea For Release | 80-Year-Old Ex-President To Stay Detained

Supporters of former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte broke down in tears after the International Criminal Court (ICC) rejected his appeal for provisional release. The 80-year-old ex-leader will remain in detention in The Hague as he awaits possible trial over alleged crimes against humanity linked to his deadly war on drugs.

Duterte’s lawyers argued declining health and advanced age, while his grandson Omar insisted he was not a flight risk and deserved to spend his remaining years with family. But ICC judges ruled otherwise, saying the risks outweighed the defence claims. Duterte was arrested in March over thousands of killings between 2016 and 2022. His legal team continues to file motions seeking to dismiss the case entirely.
