Vintage Polo Inspired Air Jordan 4 Custom

Today Vick is working on a vintage Polo inspired Air Jordan 4 Custom for Akil. This custom Jordan will feature the Jordan 4 Motorsport as the base shoe, with some hardware and pieces from a pair of the Fire Red Jordan 4s. Akil’s girlfriend and the rest of the RESHOEVN8R team wanted to surprise him with a Polo Ralph Lauren themed custom Jordan for his birthday.

The custom itself is inspired by a sweet Stadium Polo Ralph Lauren Jacket that Akil absolutely loves. The first thing Vick worked on was removing the tongues and back tabs from each of the shoes. We’re going to end up swapping the tongues and back tabs, meaning that the Motorsport Jordan 4s will have the back tabs and tongues from the Fire Reds.

Let’s move to the insoles. Vick thrifted some Polo and removed the tags to sew into place on the insoles. Now we can work on the midsole. We need to sand down the black finish to prep the midsole for new paint. After the prep work was complete, Vick laid down a white base coat with the airbrush and finished the midsole with that iconic Polo navy blue.

Another awesome detail on the inside of the midsoles is the American Flag detailing. Vick painted blue and white stars on one side and the red and white stripes on the other with the help of a custom stencil.

The backtabs were a big undertaking for this project. Not only did Vick have to fill in the old stitching holes with Flex Glue and repaint that area, but they also got some custom detailing in the laser engraver. The custom engravings pay homage to two of Akil’s nicknames and his hometown of Brooklyn, NY. Other engravings around the custom Jordan 4s include a birthday message from Akil’s girlfriend, and more references to the Stadium jacket.

Now we can stick everything together and start to finish up this custom Polo Ralph Lauren inspired Air Jordan 4. After gluing the custom back tabs into place, Vick attached the newly designed tongue tags (courtesy of D-Nice customs and our graphic designer, Christian) to complete the custom.

There were so many details that went into the making of this custom Jordan 4. The subtleties all come together to create such a sweet, cohesive piece that we know Akil is going to love!
