Father and son went snow caving for the first time up on Mount Rose in the Olympic National Forest during the early spring of 2023. It was almost a 3000 foot elevation gain to get up into the snow, but we found it on the north side of the mountain. Weather was perfect for the overnighter with temperatures dipping below freezing to solidify the snow cave. The site we stayed at might actually be in a burn area, given the 2025 Bear Gulch Fire that started near this trailhead. I love the sound of crunching snow under foot and the silence in the snowy wilderness.
