E. Kale Edmiston, PhD is a neuroscientist and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh. His lab uses multimodal imaging, neuromodulatory, and psychophysiological methods to study visual perception in people at risk for developing mood and anxiety disorders. Dr. Edmiston is the recipient of a NIMH K01 award, a Brain & Behavior Research Foundation Young Investigator Award, and early career awards from the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology and the Society of Biological Psychiatry. He has published dozens of papers on the neural correlates of social and emotional visual perception in mood disorders in journals such as JAMA Pediatrics, Molecular Psychiatry, and the Journal of Neuroscience. Dr. Edmiston is also a transgender person who works to improve access to mental healthcare for the LGBTQ+ community. He is an active advocate for increasing representation of LGBTQ+ people in science. Dr. Edmiston is the proud parent of a transgender teenager and lives in Pittsburgh with his boyfriend and an extremely fluffy dog.
