GETTING PULLED OVER BY THE COPS ON AN ELECTRIC SCOOTER

UPDATE: After speaking with local authorities, we have a city ordinance that allows electric scooters up to 25 mph on sidewalks or streets except for a small few block section of downtown, where you we must ride in the street only. It is a bit ambiguous in it's wording, and needs some more improvement to allow scooters that can keep up with the flow of traffic, not impede it.

The local ordinance that bans riding on sidewalks downtown ends on the sidewalk that I entered. I consider this a legal merge from turning lane to sidewalk. Why shouldn't it be? Obviously just know the scooter laws in your city and you will be fine. If there is some kind of ongoing problem, consider printing a copy to educate any officer that stops you. Knowledge is power.

I'm also told that in the US, the constitution protects our right to free travel. Since scooters are not explicitly banned, it's a protected right to travel with it...

You are still liable if you hit someone or something, but I heavily recommend recording every ride for this reason. It keeps yourself in check as much as anyone else. Scoot accountably! You are probably required to have lights at night and alert pedestrians before you pass them ("On the left"). You shouldn't hit anyone if you are safe, so let's keep it as safe as possible people.

Scooters are great for patrolling bike paths, parks, and even for your mental health! Imagine how useful it will be on football game days or other large events!
