Safety and bacon. Both are incredibly important and rarely intersect.... BUT operating a homestead will regularly require us to work with equipment that can be VERY dangerous.
This video is about how we prepare our bacon; furthermore, it is also a reminder about how important it is to not be complacent about safety.
One of the reasons past generations quit homesteading was they did not have the technology and machines which we have today.
We have a slicer that makes cutting bacon take 15 minutes BUT with that added capability comes a lot more danger.
This video is about how we cut bacon... but is also a reminder about how a lapse of judgement can easily lead to permanent harm.
Part of being a homesteader is being safe even while being stretched into new roles and capabilities. Sustainability is not solely about increased production but about ensuring we do not put the process of something above ourselves.
