You can purchase these containers typically at any local Walmart.
For a container that stretches from water (especially as it gets bigger) ensure metal rods underneath the rim to prevent further bulging.
I believe that putting aquariums near the window has a lot more beneficial outcomes than drawbacks.
Having natural sunlight promotes proper plant growth and an organic circadian rhythm for fish. Algae growth wouldn't be a problem if the tank is already established and balanced. Temperatures fluctuations may be a concern, however, if you have blinds/curtains to control that light, it's not big of a concern. Also, a background for the tank has to be absent to ensure as much sunlight as possible, so that's a drawback as well.
