In this video, I see if I can get the 12v71 V12 Supercharged Detroit Diesel 2 Stroke powered Wabco Haulpak Dump Truck to drive out of its resting place in this quarry after it has been sitting for years after being retired from its duties more than 20 years ago. This is the third video in a series of videos on this monster and the early videos focused on will it start and will it drive forward and backwards.
This big V12 Detroit diesel is fitted with a mechanical roots style blower which can be seen on the top of the Detroit 2 stroke engine. In Australia, many folk would refer to a mechanically driven air blower device like this as a supercharger. In this application, its function however is not so much to force “boost” into the cylinder but to use the air pressure generated to help blow away exhaust gasses.
