«اللؤلؤ، حكاية سندباد في مُهمة مُستحيلة»

قبل اكتشاف الحديد وقبل تقدير الألماس وقبل ملحمة جلجاميش وحتى قبل بناء الأهرامات عرف البشر تلك الحبّات البيضاء النفيسة التي تسكن أصدافًا تنام بهدوء في قاع الماء. وقفزوا في البحر لعمق عشرات الأمتار للحصول عليها .. هذه الحبات هي اللؤلؤ. عرف العرب اللؤلؤ قديمًا وكانت بلدان الخليج العربي مراكز التنقيب عنه، ومثّل نشاطهم تجارة عملاقة تحيط بها مخاطر وصِعاب حقيقية. وتحيط بها كذلك خيالات جميلة. واستمر الحال كذلك إلى أن اكتشفت هذه البلدان البترول، الذي يمكن وصفه بالـ لؤلؤ الأسود ..
