The Orangeburg Part-Time Players present Hairspray. It’s 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland, and plump teenager Tracy Turnblad’s dream is to dance on “The Corny Collins Show,” a local TV dance program based on the real-life “Buddy Deane Show.” When Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight and meets a colorful array of characters before launching a campaign to integrate the show. The musical is a social commentary on the injustices in parts of American society during the 1960s. “Hairspray — the Musical,” written by Marc Shaiman with lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman — and based on the book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meeham
