Life, if we ever find it, must be quite close by, unless it is the hostile kind. Depending on the state of technology, alien contact may be challenging. Therefore, the shorter the distance, the more fascinating it will be.

#ProximaCentauriD is the closest star system to the Sun, and in February, astronomers announced the discovery of a new planet in that star system. It's exciting news for astronomers and adds additional dimensions to the study of exoplanets.

Today, we dive deeper into our new neighbor named Proxima d, which at only 4.2 light years distant is almost right down the street and while they prepare to position the #JamesWebbSpaceTelescope in that direction, let's take a look at what we've learnt so far.

The exoplanet search is comprehensive, but it's easy to miss obvious results if you're constantly scanning the horizon. The nearest star in the Alpha Centauri system, Proxima Centauri, is located around four light-years away from Earth. And leading up to this new and thrilling discovery, Proxima Centauri was already the home star for a pair of magnificent new worlds.
