Cruising Conversations – Episode 14 – Brian Calvert – SELENE owner and broker

In April of 2025, Jeff Merrill and Brian Calvert got together to spend some time catching up while both were in Anacortes, WA for Trawlerfest. Brian gave a great presentation about cruising “Make your Dream your Story” and JMYS.com has a summary of the event posted here:

Going back to the beginning of this century (maybe 2001?) Brian and Jeff met and became instant friendly competitors on the boat show circuit – Brian representing Selene, and Jeff representing Nordhavn. They overlapped with shows and clients, but it was always fair and fun and both had the same attitude that which trawler a buyer selected was not as important as just getting a trawler and going out cruising.

As time has marched on, they have remained in touch. Jeff continues being active in the trawler brokerage community. Brian and his partners in the Friday Harbor Yacht Sales team helped sell over 150 new Selenes and a large number of brokerage Selene’s, easily the most impactful introduction of the Selene brand to North America.

After a long career helping his clients realize their goals, Brian joined them and took off to cross the Pacific aboard his Selene 48 Furthur. Brian’s oceanic adventures are well documented on his blog, which you can also subscribe to if you would like regular updates.

Brian continues to enjoy the cruising lifestyle in the Philippines with his wife and son. He has also remained in touch with Howard Chen and the Selene factory as a new build representative.

Brian Calvert is eager to share what he has learned about cruising various Pacific islands and has been welcomed with open arms by the team as Selene Americas.
