This lecture introduces you to the basic methods of how engineering practitioners assess seismic slope stability. I focus on limit equilibrium methods, though engineers also are using more nonlinear numerical analysis to predict stability. I discuss pseudo-static analysis and the selection of a horizontal seismic acceleration coefficient. The concept of a yield acceleration is introduced.
