Shahporan Mazar Sylhet or শাহপরান মাজার সিলেট is a sacred pilgrimage or spiritual establishment in the city of Sylhet. This is the tomb of Shah Paran, one of the companions of Shah Jalal, a preacher of Islam who came to Bangladesh from the Middle East in 1303 AD. It is located in Khadim Nagar area east of Sylhet city. The Shahporan Mazar Sylhet or শাহপরান মাজার সিলেট or shahporan mazar or শাহপরান মাজার or shahporan mazar shorif or শাহপরান মাজার শরীফ or hazrat shahporan mazar or হযরত শাহপরান মাজার or hazrat shahporan or হযরত শাহপরান or shahporan শাহপরান is located at a distance of about 6 km from Shah Jalal's Dargah. Like Shah Jalal's Dargah, this shrine also attracts a lot of visitors.
Shah Paran's tomb or Shahporan Mazar Sylhet or শাহপরান মাজার সিলেট is under a huge tree on a hill in Khadimnagar area east of Sylhet city. There are stairs going north and south in the premises of the shrine to get up and down the shrine. Which looks about 8 to 10 feet high. It is said that the stairs were built during the Mughal period. To the west of the shrine is a three-domed mosque built in the architecture of the Mughal emperors. In this mosque about 500 worshipers perform prayers together. About 15/20 feet southwest of Mazar Tila, there is a building with a sack for female tourists. Another house can be seen a short distance east of the said building. This house is mainly used as a resting place for foreign tourists. There is a pond next to this house, which is used for aju bath.
After the conquest of Sylhet, on the orders of Shah Jalal, he engaged himself in the work of propagating Islam. Shah Paran preached Islam in different places including Nabiganj and Habiganj of Sylhet. Later, when the miracle was revealed, he (Shah Paran) came to Khadem Nagar area of Dahminakach Parganas, six miles away from Sylhet city and settled there for preaching religion. Shah Paran kept himself busy preaching Islam in Khadim Nagar till the end of his life and it was here that he fell asleep forever.
