On this Aotearoa New Zealand history tour we are exploring Whangamarino Redoubt. Located next to Te Teoteo’s Pā, a sentry pā, on a hill overlooking an important catchment area - the Whangamarino Redoubt was established after the occupation of the Pā.
It overlooks in abundant area, once home to various Maori and trading routes. It connects the Waikato, Maramarua and Whangamarino Rivers, various streams, as well as Lake Waikare and Lake Karaka (Kopuera). It is also the second largest swamp area in the North Island. It can be accessed today from the Whangamarino Track.
