Let’s go to Kak Mahal, known for its enchanting gardens, labyrinths, streams and bridges. But the palace is a honey trap. Potential suitors with go there to win over Moomal, but always fail, except for Rano Mendhero. Moomal is smitten by Rano and falls for him. The tables are turned. Now it is she who longs for her beloved, who only visits her at night.
As Sindh’s sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai says:
“Let’s go to Kak!
Where love overflows
And consumes all else
Where love flourishes and grows
There is neither day nor night
Let’s go, let’s go
Let’s go to Kak!”
As they narrate and explain the story, journalist Shahzeb Jillani tells us why this tale has remained close to his heart. Co-host Wajiha Naqvi is also struck by Moomal Rano as one of her most favorite folktales.
