Please join me on the Devil’s Garden Trail at Arches National Park, one of the most adventurous and rewarding hikes in the park, offering an unforgettable journey through a dense concentration of natural sandstone arches and dramatic desert scenery. Starting near the Devil’s Garden Trailhead, we will pass iconic formations like Landscape Arch, one of the longest natural arches in the world, before continuing deeper into a maze of fins, spires, and narrow passages. As the crowds thin out, the landscape feels more rugged and remote, revealing the raw beauty of the high desert.
At the end of our hike stands Dark Angel, a towering sandstone monolith that rises sharply from the surrounding terrain. Once thought to be an eroded arch, Dark Angel is now known as a massive freestanding pillar shaped by millions of years of wind, water, and erosion. Reaching this formation feels like a true backcountry achievement, with expansive views and a sense of solitude that contrasts with the busier sections of the park.
The Devil’s Garden Trail and Dark Angel showcase Arches National Park at its wildest, blending iconic landmarks with challenging terrain and quiet moments of reflection. It’s a hike that rewards patience, preparation, and a willingness to explore beyond the main viewpoints, offering a deeper connection to the park’s geology and timeless desert landscape.
