Jose Galindo, born in Mexico in 1910, moved to Austin, Texas, at age two. He attended school on East 11th Street and faced segregation, attending a Mexican school on East 5th Street. Galindo graduated from Austin High School in 1938 and briefly attended the University of Texas. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army, experiencing combat in Scotland, Northampton, and Paris. He recounted the harsh realities of war, including the impact of the Pearl Harbor bombing and the emotional toll of witnessing human suffering. Post-war, he returned to Austin, where he continued his life and family.
