⭐️DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT⭐️
I feel incredibly blessed to be part of this year’s AGBO No Sleep 'til Film Fest. The prompt of “perspective” was the perfect springboard for a story with many layers — challenging us to play with truth, bias, and memory through story, craft, and editing. What emerged is exactly what we hoped for; a sharp, chaotic, and comedic take on perception, told through a Rashomon-style lens that keeps the audience guessing until the final frame. Bringing this story to life was truly a team effort. It was important that everyone on our team felt comfortable pitching jokes and improvising on material we had written. Everyone embraced the task, and many happy accidents turned into magic. I’m thankful to everyone that helped make FLOATER the film it is.Thanks to AGBO for inspiring us and giving us the chance to participate in such an incredible event!
⭐️BEHIND THE SCENES INFORMATION⭐️
I decided just a week out that I wanted to enter the AGBO No Sleep ‘til Film Fest and spent most of the week reaching out to people, calling in favors, and trying to pull everything together. I had an amazing co-producer, Marlee Chizari, who jumped in to help ensure all the pieces fell into place. Amanda Edwards not only co-wrote but also offered her house for production. I had never done a 48-hour film fest before, but I was excited to dive in head first. Personal projects often hit the back burner, but this format forced me to react, adapt, and make something fun and impactful, under pressure. The Roshomon idea was the first thing I thought of at 5:01pm after we got the prompt. Amanda and I spent the next five hours refining it — originally called “Pool Party,” later changed to FLOATER, after realizing we couldn’t use Dead Pool (only kidding). With a full crew of DP, lighting techs, actors, and sound, we showed up Saturday morning ready to shoot. It was overcast, but we worked around it, going back to reshoot a scene as the sun came out. It was important to me that everyone felt comfortable to pitch jokes and improv on the material I had written in a haze the night before. Our cast and crew did not disappoint, they fully embraced the opportunity and made the material better in every way. I edited a first cut into Saturday night, then brought on an editor Sunday morning to tighten timing and polish. I would have loved more hours to mix and color, but we submitted at 4:57pm on Sunday, making the most of every minute. This was one of my favorite filmmaking experiences. Thanks to AGBO inspiring us and giving us the opportunity to participate in such an incredible event!
