A robust medical alert system won’t just protect you in your bedroom, but throughout your home, and even outside of it. Besides relying on the emergency button built into the base unit of your home system, which is often placed beside, users of medical alert systems should be able to call for help with the aid of an auxiliary button even if they’re far from the central unit.
These portable buttons extend the range of your protection. They encourage compliance by being wearable, so the senior is protected by always having a button within reach. They are often waterproof as well, so they can call for emergency services from the bathtub or shower, a frequent location of falls. Bathrooms are where you want the most privacy, but also where you need the most protection.
Many home units offer a choice of two buttons that connect to the base unit as part of the basic configuration. The pair of buttons share the same range and functionality. They only differ as to where they can be worn. The wrist button goes around your wrist like a wristwatch. While the neck pendant is worn like a necklace.
