#Dadjokes Friday! Plus a sensor basics for you on one of the oldest & most widely used techs in factory automation: 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀!
𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠?
Inductive sensors create an eddy current effect from a coil at the face of the sensor thru an oscillating electromagnetic field that is projected from the active surface. When metals (most commonly ferrous/iron) are presented to the sensor inside the field the sensor turns on.
𝙏𝙬𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙬𝙖𝙩𝙘𝙝 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧!
📛 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀! When the target is much smaller than the coil, the target needs to be much closer to the sensor to activate it, if it can activate it at all.
📛 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀! When the target moves directly perpendicular to (from the front) the sensing face, this gives you the largest sensing range. When moving parallel (from the side) to the sensing face you need to be closer.
