How to make an 808 in seconds | Reason 12 Tutorials

Whats up everybody this is your boy Chris Reed Beats back with another video! In this video I am going to share with you one technique to creating your own 808 bass drum samples.

Using malstrom to create a simple sine wave that is tuned to the key of C, we will create a bass sample by first playing it in the sequencer, then bouncing it to a new sample.

After that we will load it into mimic.

Now there are many ways to create an 808 bass and you could even create the entire sample in Malstrom, but I love mimic and I wanted to show this technique first!

Once the sample is in mimic, shape the envelope by increasing the release, shorting the sustain and decay until you get that perfect length for those 808 subs we all love.

That is pretty much it! After that we can add some effects in mimic, some eq and distortion to taste.
