Publishers Finally Just Admitted It’s All A Lie

Publishers just admitted how evil the gaming industry really is.
In 2025, companies like EA, Ubisoft, Activision Blizzard, Take Two, and Epic Games are openly bragging about manipulating players for profit. Microtransactions, loot boxes, XP boosters, time savers, battle passes, and live service models aren’t just add-ons anymore, they’re the business model.

Look at the receipts: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla tuned progression to sell XP boosts. Destiny 2 throttled XP gains to push players toward microtransactions. Middle Earth: Shadow of War locked its true ending behind loot boxes. Gran Turismo 7 made cars cost $40 to $200 in real money, then nerfed race payouts to increase the grind. FIFA Ultimate Team built a billion dollar empire on loot boxes. Call of Duty: Warzone doubled microtransaction revenue with battle passes and cosmetic stores. Diablo Immortal set the bar for pay to win.

This isn’t accidental. Publishers like EA, Ubisoft, and Activision track every button press, every pause, and every store visit. They file patents for dynamic difficulty adjustment and manipulative matchmaking designed to frustrate you until you pay. They’ve turned challenge, grind, and even failure into a revenue stream, and they’re proud of it.

But not every studio sold out. Larian Studios made Baldur’s Gate 3 with no microtransactions, no loot boxes, and no cash shop, and it sold millions, won Game of the Year, and proved respect still sells. FromSoftware’s Elden Ring hit 20 million copies without a single battle pass. Even EA’s Jedi: Fallen Order showed a single player game without microtransactions could smash sales expectations.

This video exposes how publishers manipulate difficulty, grind, and progression, and why studios like Larian and FromSoftware are proof that players will reward honest design.

The future of video games doesn’t have to be predatory.
