ASMAA HAMZAOUI is one of the few female Moroccan gnawa singers and guembri (three stringed bass lute) players. She is unique in having an all-female backing group called BNAT TIMBOUKTOU singing and playing the qraqeb (metal castanets).
GNAWA is essentially hypnotic trance music to evoke ancient saints for healing purposes.
