We stayed with Somlid and his family in a small village near Luang Prabang for almost a month. What started as a short stay quickly turned into something much deeper.
Somlid grew up in this village and carries an incredible amount of cultural, botanical and medicinal knowledge. He explained traditions, plants, bamboo craftsmanship and the Lao way of life with a depth we had never experienced before.
What made this stay truly unique was not only the place, but communication. Somlid speaks English and German, which allowed real conversations, cultural context and understanding that usually remain hidden to travelers.
This short documentary is about slow travel, disappearing knowledge and what happens when you stop rushing and start listening.
